Rotten Tomatoes is putting together a list of every new
certified freshman film, making it our guide to the best films of 2021. Among
them you'll find blockbusters (Godzilla vs. Kong), documentaries (Cat Ilish:
The World a Little Billy), award contenders (Minaret, Judas and the Black
Messiah, Father), and terribly modern (true, black magic). Queen).
Films get certified fresh status by maintaining at least 75%
tomato meter score after a minimum of reviews, depending on how the film was
released. For wide releases (of which there were significantly fewer this year,
as you can imagine), the minimum number of reviews is 80. This number is 40 for
streaming or limited release movies. . In all types of releases, each film requires
at least five reviews for top critics to write. Once a movie is certified
fresh, the only way to lose it is to go below 70%.
Since the global changing year of 2020, critics and listeners
and studio heads alike are moving towards 2021 with their evolving distribution
model and industry standards. So far, streaming continues to deliver live goods
to the public (Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar) as theaters begin to reopen,
ready to deliver the greatest summer successes (a quiet place Part II) , In heights).
